Learning Experiences Outside The Classroom

School education service popular

AgResearch’s Education Officer, Colin Nicol, is taking our science and research to New Zealand classrooms – and schools have been quick to take up the offer.

He visits New Zealand schools year-round, using his extensive teaching and science background to enlighten students about DNA extraction, gene splicing, cloning, transgenesis and running gel electrophoresis practicals. There has also been a lot of interest in presentations about the biocontrol of possums.

Colin’s passion is communicating science to students. He has taught English in Japan, Biology and Chemistry to Year 13, and recently was Head Of Department for Computing and teaching Print Design at Taumarunui High School.
